RECORDED PHONE CONVERSATION BETWEEN AMBER FREY AND SCOTT PETERSON:
(January 1, 2003 at 2205 hours)

FREY:                    Hello.  Hello

PETERSON:           Hello.

FREY:                    Hi.

PETERSON:           Amber, are you there?

FREY:                    I’m here.

PETERSON:           Hey.

FREY:                    Hi.

PETERSON:           Hey, good morning.

FREY:                    Well, it's actually good night for me.

PETERSON:           Are you asleep?

FREY:                    I’m not yet.

PETERSON:           Oh, did I wake you when you were just about to fall asleep?

FREY:                    No.

PETERSON:           Oh, good.  Do you know…

FREY:                    You know what, Ayianna had a rough time going to bed tonight.

PETERSON:           Oh, anything special or just running around and wanting juice?

FREY:                    Oh, it was juice and now she says tea.

PETERSON:           Tea?

FREY:                    Tea.  I want…

PETERSON:           Oh, how cute.  Isn’t that sweet?  She says I want tea?

FREY:                    Yeah, she says want...

PETERSON:           Oh, my God!

FREY:                    Mama, I want tea.

PETERSON:           No way.

FREY:                    Yeah.

PETERSON:           Wow! Now you have to change.  Instead of saying bay, you’ll

have to say baby, I’m in here.

FREY:                    Yeah.

PETERSON:

FREY:                    Yeah, we were playing that tonight.

PETERSON:           Oh, yeah?

FREY:                    Yeah.

PETERSON:           Okay.  How sweet.  Is she uh…in her usual area then?

FREY:                    What was that?

PETERSON:           Is she in her usual spot?

FREY:                    In her usual spot?

PETERSON:           Yeah in her bed in front of the sofa?

FREY:                    No, she’s in the bed.

PETERSON:           She's in bed with you?

FREY:                    She's in bed…no, I’m not in bed.

PETERSON:           You’re not?

FREY:                    ____________(inaudible) and I got up.

PETERSON:           Say it again, where are you?

FREY:                    I said I got up.  I'm in the kitchen.

PETERSON:           Oh, okay.  I’m sorry.

010103 ─ 2205                                                                                02-142591

FREY:                    It's okay.  No, she’s not…she didn’t fall asleep in there today cause

                              she was just so fussy…

PETERSON:           Amber, say that again?

FREY:                    I said she was so fussy I brought her into the bedroom, she didn't

                              want to go to sleep.

PETERSON:           Amber, I can't hear you right now.  Hold on.  Is this better?

FREY:                    Yeah, I could hear you fine.

PETERSON:           I can barely hear you.  Okay.

FREY:                    Can you hear me?

PETERSON:           So, yeah, okay.  But she’s laying down in front of the sofa?

FREY:                    No, she's in bed.

PETERSON:           She's in your bed?

FREY:                    She’s in my bed.  She's sleeping.

PETERSON:

FREY:                    She’s been saying teddy bear and tea.

PETERSON:           Oh, yeah.

FREY:                    She had me put tea in her cup instead of…

PETERSON:           Ah!

FREY:                    I put a little bit with water.  And what else does she have?  Last

night she slept with a...a lei, a pink Iei around her neck.

PETERSON:                           How cute.

FREY:                    She had that all tangled up.  And teddy bear and juice.

PETERSON:           Yeah.

FREY:                    Or water in her cup.

PETERSON:                            How fun.

010103 ─ 2205                                                                                02-142591

FREY:                    She had her usual cheese before she went to bed tonight.

PETERSON:           Excellent.  String cheese?  How cute.

FREY:                    But yeah, the new thing is, “Mama, I want tea.”  I mean so

many...she's saying, “What is that, mama?”  I want to…four, well

                              four-letter sentences.

PETERSON:           Wow, that's awesome.

FREY:                    So.

PETERSON:           Wow, that's so cool.

FREY:                    She's taking off, it’s…you know, it’s been exciting.

PETERSON:           Yeah.

FREY:                    So, how are you?

PETERSON:           Do you know what time...do you know what time it is here?

FREY:                    Um…well, not.

PETERSON:           7:00 o'clock.  And this is why I'm up, I am determined to go out and

                              jog.

FREY:                    Really?

PETERSON:           I’m going to fight pudge boy.

FREY:                    So you ate too much with your folks, huh?

PETERSON:           Yeah.  Well, not with them but certainly in the last couple days I

                              have.

FREY:                    The what?

PETERSON:           Certainly in the last couple days I have.

FREY:                    So what have you been eating?

PETERSON:           What's that?

FREY:                    So what have you been eating to make you pudgy?

010103 ─ 2205                                                                                02-142591

PETERSON:           Oh, just all this French food.

FREY:                    Uh-hum.

PETERSON:           And all this wine.  And last night…well, this morning too there is this

fucking dog next to this hotel.

FREY:                    This what?

PETERSON:           This dog that just keeps barking.

FREY:                    Really?

PETERSON:           Oh, I want to kill it.

FREY:

PETERSON:           I got here like at 2:00 this morning, but I’m going to fight the pudge.

FREY:                    So you’re gonna go jogging at 7:00 o’clock in the morning?

PETERSON:           It   it is so cold outside.

FREY:                    I was gonna say, isn't it cold?

PETERSON:           It is freezing.  There's no snow on the ground, but it…oh, it was so

                              cold last night.

FREY:                    I mean, it’s been cold here.  I woke up this morning and it was kind

                              of frosty a little bit.

PETERSON:           Yeah.

FREY:                    So but I mean the days are nice.  The sun comes out and the sky is

clear and it’s been really beautiful.  You can see the mountains

really clear and all the snow on top.

PETERSON:           Um…

FREY:                    And I was thinking maybe I...

PETERSON:           Sounds nice.

FREY:                    …take Ayianna to the snow.  Um…I don’t think I took her to the

                              snow last year.

010103 ─ 2205                                                                                02-142591

PETERSON:           No?

FREY:                    So I was thinking this year, it would be a great time.  I think she’d

really enjoy, you know, the snow.

PETERSON:           Oh, definitely.

FREY:                    Have to get her little gloves.

PETERSON:           She can put together a whole sentence, mom, I want to go to the

                              snow.

FREY:                    That would be so…

PETERSON:           And you can say baby, we’ll go.  (pause) Amber, you there?

FREY:                    I'm here.  Bundle her up with her Barbie jacket.

PETERSON:           You are?

FREY:                    No, I said wish...

PETERSON:           Oh, you're going to bundle up?

FREY:                    Uh huh.  That’s a good one though.  I think that…

PETERSON:           That would be cool.  I’m so awake.  I was so tired when the damn

                              alarm…

FREY:                    Huh, what was that?

PETERSON:           I was so tired when the damn alarm went off this morning.  Now,

                              I’m so awake calling you.

FREY:                    I energize ya?

PETERSON:           Yeah.

FREY:                    So how long a distance are you going?  Um…are you just gonna

                              jog around the streets or…?

PETERSON:           Yeah, pretty much, yeah.  I don’t know.  I’m just gonna run.  I

don’t…I kind of remember the area here

FREY:                    Uh-hum.

010103 ─ 2205                                                                                02-142591

PETERSON:           But not really that well, but I’ll jog down to the main square.

FREY:                    Uh-hum.

PETERSON:           Which is kind of neat with all the big churches in the background.

FREY:                    Yeah, I don’t  even really, you know, know even how...l mean

I’ve…the only times I’ve really seen Paris is, you know…

PETERSON:           I’m in Brussels now.

FREY:                    Oh, you're...that's right, you took the train to Brussels.  Well…

PETERSON:           Yeah, __________

FREY:                    You're in Europe though, right?

PETERSON:           Oh, yeah.

FREY:                    The area there, I mean it’s different than here isn't it?  I mean

there's cities and the way the neighborhoods are or is it very

                              similar?

PETERSON:           No, it’s…no.  I mean I’m in the city so it’s much cleaner obviously

than most cities that you…American cities.

FREY:                    Uh-hum.

PETERSON:           At least Brussels is.  Paris is pretty clean.  Yeah, there won’t be

anyone out I’m sure.  People get up, you know, like 9:00 and 10:00.

FREY:                    So how it is they have such a luxury to sleep in?

PETERSON:           Well, just because they work until 8:00 or 9:00 in the evening.

FREY:                    Really?

PETERSON:           Yeah.  They probably work from 9:00 to 9:00 with a couple hour

                              lunch.

FREY:                    Uh-hum.

PETERSON:           You know, they work late, they have more holidays during the year.

FREY:                    They what?

010103 ─ 2205                                                                                02-142591

PETERSON:           They have more holidays during the year.

FREY:                    They have more holidays?

PETERSON:           Oh, yeah.  They average like…like in Brussels they have two…

FREY:                    Are their holidays different than English…United States or in

                              California?

PETERSON:           They have regular U.S. holidays plus more.  And they’ll have

like two months off usually a year.

FREY:                    Wow!

PETERSON:           So then they make up for it by working 10 hours every day.

FREY:                    Oh!  I just sat in…oh, potato on me or something, Ayianna dropped

                              something…

PETERSON:           Okay.

FREY:                    I just sat in...or put my hand down in some…

PETERSON:           Amber?

FREY:                    Yeah.

PETERSON:           Hey, there you are.

FREY:                    I’m here.  Can you hear me?

PETERSON:           Amber?

FREY:                    Yes.

PETERSON:           Yeah, I miss you baby.

FREY:                    I miss you too.

PETERSON:           Amber, I can’t hear you.

FREY:                    I'm right here, I'm here.

PETERSON:           Okay. Hello? Sweetie?

FREY:                    Yeah.

PETERSON:           (static)

FREY:                    So did you think of your New Year's resolution?

PETERSON:           What's that?

FREY:                    So did you think of your New Year's resolution?

PETERSON:           Yeah, I think so.  Can I keep it to myself?

FREY:                    Why?  You don't want to share?

PETERSON:           What's that?

FREY:                    I said you don’t want to share?

PETERSON:           I can’t hear you.  What'd you say?

FREY:                    You don't want to share?

PETERSON:           Urn…I haven't decided exactly yet.  I need to decide if this is going

to be it and then I’ll share.

FREY:                    Okay.

PETERSON:           Is that fair?

FREY:                    That sounds fair, yeah.

PETERSON:           Oh, perfect

FREY:                    Oh, last night, oh, my gosh.

PETERSON:           You got a little hangover?

FREY:                    Um…a little bit, yeah.  Yeah, a little bit.  I’ve got one today.

Um…I…I uh…I sang actually and I got applauds so it was kind of cool

PETERSON:           What’d you do?

FREY:                    I sang a karaoke song front of Shawn…

PETERSON:           Yeah. What'd you sing?

010103 ─ 2205                                                                                02-142591

FREY:                    Uh…I don’t know who it’s by, but it’s uh…that song that starts out

“Kiss me by the…” oh, and I don’t remember the Date of Marlene,

but I know that’s not the words but…you know that song?

PETERSON:           No.  How late did the party go?

FREY:                    (singing) out on the Date with Marlene or sing, sing.  Oh, I can’t

remember the words now cause they were right in front of me of

                              course but…

PETERSON:           Yeah.

FREY:                    That was a good one, but I can’t remember who picked it.  Syd, this

                              guy Syd picked the song.

 PETERSON:           All right.

FREY:                    So I was all jazzed so…

PETERSON:           You're awesome.

FREY:                    And then everything after that was really bad

PETERSON:           It was bad?  Why, what happened?

FREY:                    Just off key, just…

PETERSON:           Oh!

FREY:                    Just couldn't get the tone or anything, but that was for whatever reason and I did pretty good.

PETERSON:           How late did it last, the party?

FREY:                    Oh, my gosh!  I think till 3:30 in the morning.

PETERSON:           Yeah, baby. Hee-hee.

FREY:                    Hum-hum.  Yeah, it was uh…I had a good buzz by that

time cause oh, it was uh…it was fun.  I had a good time.

PETERSON:           Yeah.  Good.

FREY:                    Yeah.

PETERSON:           Did you see all the news on Paris?

010103 ─ 2205                                                                                02-142591

FREY:                    No, I didn’t actually.

PETERSON:           There was a bomb that exploded.

FREY:                    What?

PETERSON:           There’s a bomb that exploded and riots and the whole deal.

FREY:                    You're kidding me?

PETERSON:           No.

FREY:                    You didn't get caught in it?

PETERSON:           I didn't...I didn't see any of it, no.  I guess I was on the other side of

                              town but…

FREY:                    Oh, my gosh!

PETERSON:           I read about it this morning.

FREY:                    No, I…I…oh, we had the karaoke thing on the TV so that was going all night long.

PETERSON:

FREY:                    Oh, my gosh!  Yeah.  You’ll have to see the videotapes when you

                              get back

PETERSON:           Yeah.

FREY:                    Oh, well, maybe not.  I don’t know if I can see it myself

                              Oh, um…I know I um…I didn’t hear about that.

PETERSON:           What's that?

FREY:                    I said no, I didn’t hear about that.

PETERSON:           Oh, okay, yeah.  I don’t know what it was really caused by, but the

pictures were pretty crazy looking.  Good thing I wasn’t down there.

FREY:                    Yeah.

PETERSON:           Man!  Okay, sweetie, you should go to bed, huh?

010103 ─ 2205                                                                                02-142591

FREY:                    Probably so, yeah.  I've got a long day tomorrow.  I’ve got a full

                              schedule so…

PETERSON:           Yeah.

FREY:                    So that should be fun

PETERSON:

FREY:                    But uh…I still, you know, oh actually um…Grammel called me and

told…finally told me why we didn’t go to Paris or uh…to uh…

PETERSON:           Hawaii?

FREY:                    to Hawaii.

PETERSON:           Why not?

FREY:                    Um...he said he gave $5,000 dollars to this guy’s um…aunt that

was supposed to have a um…place that’s uh…Fashion Fare Travel

or something.  Did I already tell you about this?

PETERSON:           No, not all of it.

FREY:                    Um...well, it turned out that she…I mean it used to be that, I

remember seeing that but um…that she no longer had that.  But I

was like you’re kidding…you know.  I said of all people to give that

money to.  He said if I wanted to go again that he would get me the

money and we would set it up and it would be no big deal because

                              he was um…

PETERSON:           Cool.

FREY:                    …he was the portion of his company and he was like…like either

3.2 or 32, I don’t remember what he said, um…million dollars for it

                              so…

PETERSON:           Good.

FREY:                    So he said he certainly, you know, it shouldn’t be a problem and I

was like cool.  So I’ll have to let you know um…so that will be

something to look forward too maybe, I don’t know.  I’m not gonna

hold my breath on it though.

PETERSON:           Yeah, exactly.  Exactly.  Not a good track record.

010103 ─ 2205                                                                                02-142591

FREY:                    No, not…well, yeah.  I said why didn’t you call me an he said well,

what was I gonna say, you know.  And I said well, I guess but you

could have at least let me know so I wasn’t hanging.

 PETERSON:           Yeah, that sucks.

FREY:                    Yeah, but...

PETERSON:           Well, that just gives me the opportunity to go with you to Hawaii for

                              the first time.

FREY:                    Yeah, that’s uh…certainly something to look forward to.

PETERSON:           Amber?

FREY:                    I’m here.

PETERSON:           Oh, good.

FREY:                    Yeah, you said you've been there before, right?

PETERSON:           Sweetie?

FREY:                    Yeah.

PETERSON:           Okay. Say it again.

FREY:                    You said you had been to um…Hawaii before.

PETERSON:           Yeah.  So I’ll get to go with you and that will be your first time.

FREY:                    What was that?

PETERSON:           I’ll get to go with you and that will be your first time.

FREY:                    Yeah.  Yeah, I’m…I’m totally looking forward to that.  I’ve always

                              wanted to go.

PETERSON:           Yeah.

FREY:                    That would just be incredible to wake up to uh…have a blue ocean

                              with warm water.

PETERSON:           Yeah.

FREY:                    The only ocean water I’ve been in has been cold

010103 ─ 2205                                                                                02-142591

PETERSON:           Huh, huh, huh

FREY:                    I tend not to…

PETERSON:           Well, we’ll change that.

FREY:                    Yeah, one of these days.

PETERSON:           Amber?

FREY:                    Yeah.

PETERSON:           Okay, are you there?

FREY:                    Yeah.  So, what, you’re gonna go jogging and then you’re uh…

PETERSON:           I think so, I’m gonna give it a go.

FREY:                    Huh?

PETERSON:           I’m gonna give it a try.

FREY:                    And then um…well, then I guess I’ll talk to you again

um…tomorrow huh?  Well, it’s so confusing.  Kind of like if you wait

a minute and walk out…um…well, yeah, it’s confusing to me the 9

                              hours.

PETERSON:           I can’t hear you.  What’d you say?

FREY:                    I said it gets confusing to me, the 9 hours, I think because…

PETERSON:           Oh, yeah.

FREY:                    …part of it on my…my days, you’re on the next day or…?

PETERSON:           Yeah.  Well, it’s the top of the morning on Thursday here, so 9

                              hours ahead.

FREY:                    Yeah, that’s just so confusing to me         And I hope by the

time…by the time, you know, by the end of this month I’ll finally get

the hang of it, the time…

PETERSON:           And then I’ll be back.

FREY:                    And then you’ll be back and I’ll just…and well of course then…

010103 ─ 2205                                                                                02-142591

PETERSON:           Then we won't have to worry about it again.

FREY:                    Right.  So maybe next time you go to Paris I’’ be with you as well.

PETERSON:           Okay, sweetheart, go to go to bed huh?

FREY:                    Yeah, I think yeah, I'm just jabbering now.

PETERSON:           What's that?

FREY:                    I said I’m probably just jabbering so…

PETERSON:           Amber?

FREY:                    Yeah.

PETERSON:           Okay.  Good night, sweetie.

FREY:                    Good night.

PETERSON:           I’ll talk to you maybe tomorrow, okay?

FREY:                    What was that?

PETERSON:           I’ll talk to you tomorrow.

FREY:                    Okay.

PETERSON:           Night, sweetie.

FREY:                    Good night.

PETERSON:           Bye.
